CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Allegheny men's cross country runners
Jeramie Parker and
Chris Marker placed 11th and 14th, respectively, to earn All-America honors and lead the Gators to third place at the NCAA Division III Championships, hosted by Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday at Highland Park Golf Course.
Parker finished the 8,000-meter course in 25:44.1 while Marker crossed the line at 25:50.2 for Allegheny, which scored 195 points and finished behind only national champion North Central (50) and Williams (181) -- just 14 points out of second place.
The team accomplishment matches the Gators' previous best finish in 2006 when the Blue and Gold placed third at the National Championship meet.
Jake Zimmerman was Allegheny's third runner to finish, clocking in at 26:28.0 to place 60th. Other scorers were
Tony Dipre, who took 66th in 26:31.4, and
Zac Ross, who was 109th in 26:47.4.
Ryan Sullivan and
Matt Lacombe also competed for the Gators. Sullivan finished 224th in 27:47.1 while Lacombe grabbed 268th in 28:51.9.
The individual national champion was Ricky Flynn of Lynchburg, who broke the tape at 25:09.8.
