Gators nipped by NYU at Inter-Regional Rumble

OBERLIN, Ohio -- Chris Marker placed first individually and Jeramie Parker placed second, leading the Allegheny men's cross country team to a second-place finish in the Inter-Regional Rumble at Oberlin. As a team, the No. 5 Gators scored 56 points and trailed only 18th-ranked New York University, which finished with 53 points.

Marker navigated the eight-kilometer course in 24:46 while Parker crossed the finish line in 24:54. Also for Allegheny, Tony Dipre was fifth in 25:05, Zac Ross took 16th in 25:31 and Ryan Hanson rounded out the scoring with a 32nd-place finish in 26:00.

The Gators' sixth and seventh runners were Jake Zimmerman and Pat McLaughlin, respectively. Zimmerman finished 35th (26:03) while McLaughlin grabbed 63rd (26:35).

Including NYU, Allegheny matched up against several ranked teams. No. 21 Carnegie Mellon placed third (98), No. 33 St. Thomas, Minn., was fourth (114), No. 20 Ohio Northern took seventh (190) and No. 31 Johns Hopkins finished eighth (225).

The Gators will be in action next on Oct. 31 when they compete in the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship meet at Ohio Wesleyan. They are hopeful for their sixth consecutive conference title.
