MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's basketball team is excited to announce that Saturday's home contest against Chatham University will serve as their National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) game.
Saturday's cross-divisional matchup between the Gators and Cougars is scheduled for a 1 p.m. tipoff inside the David V. Wise Center. To celebrate NGWSD, free pizza will be served beginning at 12:45 p.m. while supplies last.
February 4, 2026, marks the 40th annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day, powered by the Women's Sports Foundation (WSF). This celebration inspires girls and women to play and be active, to realize their full power. The confidence, strength, and character gained through sports participation are the very tools girls and women need to become strong leaders in sports and life. A vibrant movement celebrated annually, NGWSD honors the achievements of girls and women in sports and continues to Lead Her Forward by acknowledging the power of sports to unlock her limitless potential. The WSF applauds the vital role played by the individuals and organizations who join us in championing this effort: advocates seeking to protect Title IX and advance gender equity, athletes using their platform to inspire greatness, and coaches working daily to promote play.
In addition, Saturday's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) basketball doubleheader will also serve as Greg Richards '08 Day. Richards was a four-year member of the men's basketball team who was named team captain during his senior season. He passed away on February 21, 2012, following a battle with cancer. In his honor, a 50/50 raffle will be held to raise money for the Meadville Medical Center's Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute.
The Allegheny men's basketball team will tipoff against Chatham at approximately 3 p.m.
