PAC Release
TRAFFORD, Pa. -- For the fourth time this year, Allegheny College's
Carter Hassenplug (North East, Pa./North East) has been chosen as the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Golfer of the Week.
Hassenplug led the Gators to victory at the Pennsylvania Classic, hosted by Penn State Altoona on the Penn State Blue Course in State College over the weekend. Allegheny beat 16 other teams, including several PAC opponents, with a two-day score of 581 (+5), 10 strokes better than the runners-up from Washington and Jefferson College.
Individually, Hassenplug earned medalist honors after winning a playoff against Penn State Altoona's Peter Nusbaum. Both carded a 4-under 140, with Hassenplug firing a 71 (-1) on Saturday and a 69 (-3) on Sunday. On the final hole of the tournament, Hassenplug eagled the par-5 18th to force the playoff. Both golfers parred the first playoff hole on No. 14, but the Allegheny senior birdied the 18th to secure the win.
Across both days of the Pennsylvania Classic, Hassenplug recorded seven birdies and one eagle. He was near-perfect in the second round, finishing par or better on 17 holes.
Allegheny men's golf continues its spring schedule at The Moselem Cup at the Moselem Springs Golf Club in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, on Monday, April 7, and Tuesday, April 8.
