Allegheny to Participate in Saturday’s Steelers Flag Football Kickoff Showcase

LATROBE, Pa. -- Allegheny College is one of seven colleges and universities participating in the Pittsburgh Steelers Flag Football Kickoff Showcase on Saturday, March 29, at Saint Vincent College.

Saint Vincent, which has hosted Steelers training camp for nearly six decades, will host a series of girls high school and women's college-level flag football games throughout the afternoon and evening at UPMC Field. The kickoff weekend is part of the Steelers' overall commitment to girls flag football, which was sanctioned by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) as a high school sport for the 2025-26 school year.

High school teams from Gateway, Jeannette, McKeesport, Penn Hills, Plum and Woodland Hills will all be playing during the season-opening showcase. To add to the flavor and excitement, teams from area colleges, including Allegheny, Bethany College, Chatham University, Franciscan University, University of Pittsburgh, Saint Vincent, and Seton Hill University will also play, the first time an NFL sanctioned league has hosted such an event.

A group of intramural students have volunteered to represent Allegheny in two 7-on-7 games. The Gators will face two fellow Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) members, competing against Franciscan at 4:30 p.m. and Bethany at 6:30 p.m.

"On behalf of the Presidents' Athletic Conference member schools that have club teams participating in the Pittsburgh Steelers Flag Football Showcase event at Saint Vincent, we want to express our thanks and deep appreciation to the NFL for their generous financial support of this endeavor," said Joe Onderko, the commissioner of the PAC. "We also want to thank the entire Steelers organization for their continuing support in the growth of the sport as well."

"Women's flag football is a rapidly-growing sport and Allegheny is eager to participate in this event alongside several other PAC institutions," said Bill Ross, Director of Athletics and Recreation. "We are excited to have a group of 16 students on campus volunteer to represent Allegheny against two PAC opponents at this weekend's Steelers Flag Football Kickoff Showcase."

Fan parking will be available in Lot A at Saint Vincent. Fans are also encouraged to bring camping-style chairs due to limited bleacher seating and multiple games being held at the same time.
