TRAFFORD, Pa. -- Following a strong performance at the Allegheny College's home event, the annual Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational,
Zachary Melzar (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett Regional) and
Dylan Kochis (Saint Augustine, Fla./B. Reed Henderson (Pa.)) were recognized with weekly awards from the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).
Melzar was crowned the PAC Player of the Week, and Kochis was named the Newcomer of the Week after the pair helped Allegheny win the Kuhn Invitational.
The individual medalist, Melzar, finished the two-day competition five strokes under par with a score of 139. On Monday, he carded the best round of the tournament with a 5-under 67. He finished with 13 birdies, including four in a row between the fourth and seventh holes in the second round. Melzar led the Gators to the win with a team score of 568 (-8), as Allegheny posted its best round at the Country Club of Meadville in more than two decades with a 282 (-6) on Monday.
Kochis was one of five players tied for fourth place and one of seven Gators with a top-10 finish. The junior transfer, playing his first season of collegiate golf, improved by five strokes in the final round. As a result, he climbed 12 spots up the leaderboard into the top five. His five birdies in the second round included all four par 5s on the first, third, ninth, and 12th holes.
Allegheny returns to action this weekend at the Northeast Elite Invitational, hosted by Penn State Altoona at the Williamsport Country Club on Saturday, September 28, and Sunday, September 29.
