MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Trifecta. Triple Crown. Three-peat.
Whatever you choose to call it, the Allegheny College women's track and field program won it on Friday night, as the Gators completed the third leg of the extraordinary feat by winning the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
In 2022-23, the Allegheny women have now taken home the conference's cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field championships. The Gators are the first PAC team to do so since Waynesburg University in 2017-18, while becoming Allegheny's first trio of women's teams to capture all three since 1992-93.
The Gators held a 16-point lead over second-place Westminster College, 157-to-141, and earned points in 17 of the 19 events held over the two-day championship meet. Despite having to compete on a rain-soaked Friday, Allegheny won four individual titles and 11 All-PAC awards for finishing in the top three.
As anticipated, senior sprinter
Mihaela Toader (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) was at the center of Allegheny's success. Not only did she win both the 200- and 400-meter dashes, Toader set program records during the 100-meter prelims and 200-meter finals. She also ran on the fourth-place 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams, and despite not jumping at any meet during the 2023 outdoor season, she set personal records and finished on the podium in the long jump (5.01 meters) and triple jump (10.56 meters).
Perhaps Allegheny's best events as a whole were the 10,000-meter race and the shot put. The Gators place four on the podium in each event, while earning 19 points in the distance run and 22 in the throw.
Megan Aaron (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley), who was the runner-up in the 10,000-meter run at the previous two North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) outdoor meets, finally earned gold on Thursday with a 21-second lead over Chatham University's Clare Erwin.
Leuca Hanish (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) placed third, which secured the senior All-PAC Honorable Mention status.
After winning the shot put at the PAC Indoor Championships in February,
Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) repeated with a PR performance on Friday. She finished with a 0.42-meter lead over the runner-up from Westminster and surpassed 13 meters for the first time in her career at 13.20.
Laila Davis (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) added a PR of her own in third place at 12.19 meters.
Of the three second-place finishes the Gators produced at the championships, one of the biggest surprises came from first-year
Elizabeth Lubold (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area). In just her third competition, and while battling through injury, Lubold was second in the javelin with a PR throw of 37.49 meters, an increase of more than four meters from her victory at Sparky Adams Invitational last week.
With the Gators claiming another PAC championship, head coach
Ben Mourer '07 was once again honored. For the third time this year, Mourer was elected PAC Coach of the Year, adding another trophy to his cluttered showcase along the cross country and indoor track awards.
