VIENNA, Ohio -- The defending Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) champion and Player of the Year,
Carter Hassenplug (North East, Pa./North East), is off to another great start at the PAC Championships.
On Tuesday, Hassenplug concluded the 2023 PAC Fall Championships in first place and will begin the spring portion of the tournament with a one-stroke lead. After tying his best round of the season on Monday with a three-under 69, Hassenplug finished the first 36 holes with an even 144. He holds a narrow lead over Matthew Karpeal of Waynesburg University, who logged a 145 (+1).
As a team, the Gators rank second in the PAC with a two-day total of 607. Similar to last season's results, Allegheny trails Washington and Jefferson College by just one stroke. The Gators held a one-stroke lead after round one but dropped back into second place after carding a 306 on Tuesday.
In addition to Hassenplug, two other Gators finished in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard.
Bergas Anargya (Jakarta, Indonesia/Binus School Simprug) is one of four players tied for third place with 7-over par 151.
Zachary Melzar (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett Regional) is one stroke behind Anargya and locked in a two-way tie for seventh.
Hassenplug and Melzar ranked second and third among all participants with 25 and 24 pars, respectively. Hassenplug's six birdies were tied for second-most in the tournament, while Anargya was second on the team with four.
Nadir Khan (Karachi, Pakistan/Karachi Grammar School) and
Connor Bell (Montrose, Colo./Montrose) both hold a share of 20th place. The only two Gators to improve their score in the second round, Khan scored 78 (+6), and Bell recorded a 79 (+7) on Tuesday.

One of those events will be the PAC Spring Championships, where the Gators will complete the third and fourth rounds of the tournament at Mill Creek's South Course in Boardman, Ohio, on Friday, April 19, and Saturday, April 20.
