YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Allegheny College women's track and field team produced several personal records and six top-10 finishes at Youngstown State University's Mid-Major Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
The Gators competed not only against a host of Division III institutions, but a handful of Division I and several Division II programs also attended the Mid-Major Invite.
Senior sprinter
Mihaela Toader (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) was responsible for two of Allegheny's top-10s. She was second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.04 seconds, trailing only Natalia Sawyer of Buffalo State (58.15 seconds). Toader also placed ninth overall in the 200-meter dash (25.90 seconds), as she and Sawyer were once again the only D-III student-athletes among the top 10.
Second-year thrower
Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) established a new shot put PR for the second consecutive week. After winning the shot put at the College of Wooster's Fighting Scots Invitational on January 21, Miller was the best D-III thrower at YSU and placed seventh overall at 12.39 meters.
Like Miller,
Celia Cocca (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) had the best performance among the Division III runners in the 800-meter race. Five of the eight opposing runners ahead of her in the standings came from Division I programs Duquesne University and Ohio University. Cocca crossed the finish line ninth with a time of 2:22.53. She also led the 4x400-meter relay to a sixth-place effort alongside
Renee Tetlow (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva),
Emma Anderson (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton), and
Kelsey Anderson (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton).
In her first competition since the cross country regionals in November,
Mazzie Standish (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) PR'd in the 3,000-meter race. The All-Great Lakes Region distance runner was clocked at 10:48.31 and was 10th out of 42 in the race.
