WINCHESTER, Va. -- The Allegheny men's lacrosse team was defeated by Shenandoah 18-4 in a nonconference matchup on Wednesday (March 23).
Shenandoah drove in 13 goals in the first half to take an early lead. However, the Gators played a much closer third and fourth periods, respectively by keeping it to a two-point contest in the latter half.
Overall, Allegheny shared the scoring opportunities as
Aidan D'Amato (Tolland, Conn./Tolland),
Andrew Myers (Mars, Pa./North Allegheny),
Pete Schellbach (New York, N.Y./Salisbury School) and
Jack Cushwa (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) all found the back of the cage. The Gators also won 13 of the 26 face-offs on the day with
Ryan Therkorn (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall) winning nine head-to-head clashes, while
Anthony DeMarco (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) came out victorious four times against Shenandoah. Other contributors included D'Amato and
Nicholas Cimillo (Palm Harbor, Fla./East Lake) who each received one assist.
Defensively, Therkorn, Demarco and
Tim Wallis (Shady Side, MD./Southern) all paced the Blue and Gold with four ground balls during the game. Additionally,
Dillon D'Amato (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) led the Gators with two caused turnovers. Meanwhile, in goal, starting goalie
Eric Mirkovich (York, Pa./York Central) provided four saves, whereas second half netminder
David Kratzenberg (Latrobe, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) held a 50 percent save percentage in 10 shots on goal.
Allegheny returns home against Kenyon on Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m. for its first North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matchup of the season.
