Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second-half rally not enough to push past DePauw

By Adam Cohen, Athletic Communications Assistant

GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- The Allegheny men's basketball team fought back late, but ultimately fell 73-68 at DePauw in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matchup on Sunday (Feb. 6).

DePauw began with a 10-0 start to the game, and led Allegheny by as much as 14 points. Trailing, 17-3, the Gators went on a 8-0 run fueled by four points from both Caden Hinckley (Boise, Idaho/Mount Lebanon (Pa.)) and Andre Wilder (Beaver Falls, Pa./Lincoln Park). To conclude the first half DePauw was ahead, 40-30.

Within the first six minutes after the break, Allegheny trimmed the deficit to 48-40 thanks to a Brian Roberts, Jr. (Copley, Ohio/Copley) three-pointer. However, a seven-point run followed that gave DePauw a game-high 15-point lead.

Nevertheless, Roberts, Jr. and Hinckley combined for 19 points in the second half, while Jordan Greynolds (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton) connected on two shots from downtown in the period to keep the Gators close. In the waning minutes of the contest, Allegheny would go on to cut the margin as close as 71-68 before DePauw added a basket and ran out the clock.

Overall, Wilder paced all Gator scorers with 17 points. He picked up his first career double-double by contributing 10 rebounds. Roberts Jr., Hinckley, and Greynolds all reached double figures with 16, 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Additionally, Luke Barker (New Castle, Pa./Struthers (Ohio)) collected five assists, whereas Greynolds contributed three blocks and two steals, marking team highs in each of the three categories.

Allegheny travels back to Meadville for four consecutive home games to finish the regular season, the first of which will occur on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. against Wooster.
