Field Hockey, Volleyball Open Playoffs Today

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Two of Allegheny College's fall sports programs - field hockey and volleyball - are set to begin their run toward a conference championship on Tuesday, November 1.

The AC field hockey team will compete in postseason action for the first time in three seasons as a varsity sport. The Gators, who finished the regular season with a program-record 13 wins, went 4-4 against North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opponents. As the No. 4 seed in the four-team NCAC Tournament, Allegheny will take on No. 1 DePauw University at 3:00 p.m. in Greencastle, Indiana. The Tigers (12-5, 8-0 NCAC) earned the top seed after an undefeated conference schedule, but given all the records set by the Gators in a breakthrough 2022 campaign, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Gators play spoiler.

For fans unable to make the road trip to DePauw, live stats and streaming video will be available. For those in attendance, tickets are $7 for adults, $3 for children 18 and under, and free for students of an NCAC institution with a valid institutional ID.

As the No. 3 seed in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament, the Gators will enjoy home-court advantage tonight in their quarterfinal contest against No. 6 Bethany College. Allegheny won 17 matches in the regular season and went 7-3 against PAC opponents. The Gators have been nearly unbeatable at home with a 10-2 record. Allegheny enters Tuesday's match ranked No. 2 in all of Division III in total blocks, led by India McCruter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson), who ranks second in blocks with 132.

There is no charge for admission for tonight's match against Bethany at the David V. Wise Center. Live stats and streaming video will also be available for those watching from home.
