HIRAM, Ohio -- Allegheny's women's basketball team fell 72-66 to Hiram in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) match on Wednesday (Jan. 26).

The game featured a close first and fourth quarter. Additionally, Allegheny ran away with the second quarter, but Hiram bounced back after halftime. In the opening frame, Alexis Caldwell (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) and Breanna Warner (Hopewell, Pa./Sewickley Academy) made their presence known with four points each.

Warner, Sydney Watko (Pomeroy, Wash./Pomeroy) and Emily Lauer (Knox, Pa./Keystone) all contributed four points with the latter giving the Gators their first advantage of the contest, 20-19 in the second quarter. Overall, Allegheny stormed back with 20 points in the period. Entering the half, the Gators led 33-25.

However, Hiram responded with a 20-8 third quarter to erase the deficit. Nevertheless, Allegheny's offense retaliated with 25 points in the final frame. Warner once again delivered with six points after coming off the bench. Meanwhile, Caldwell tied up the game at 62-62 and 64-64. Yet, an 8-2 finish for Hiram was the difference in the contest.

Overall, Warner, Lauer and Caldwell reached double digits with 18, 16 and 12 points, respectively. Warner nearly had a double-double as she provided eight boards, while Caldwell and Chloe Rabold (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) both added in three steals.

Allegheny next makes its way to James H. Mullen Arena for its first home game of 2022. The Gators will tip-off against conference rival Ohio Wesleyan at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29.
