GRANVILLE, Ohio -- After a nearly one-month hiatus, and without several regulars from the rotation, the Allegheny men's basketball team returned to the court Saturday (Jan. 15) on the road at Denison in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action.
The Gators fell to the Big Red 82-74.
Caden Hinckley (Boise, Idaho/Mt. Lebanon (Pa.)) led the Gators with his sixth double-double of the season, tallying a season-high 24 points with 11 rebounds and three assists.
Jordan Greynolds (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton) finished the game with a season-high 22 points alongside six rebounds.
Preston Turk (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) also had a season-high with 15 points, plus three rebounds and two assists.
Josh Ratesic (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) had seven points and four rebounds.
Luke Barker (New Castle, Pa./Struthers (Ohio)) shared the team lead with three assists.
Denison started the game on a 10-4 run, but a quick 6-2 Gator run cut the lead to 12-10 five minutes in. The Big Red grew and maintained their lead throughout the remainder of the half, but a late 6-0 Allegheny run brought the score to 40-33 at the break.
The Gators opened the second half on a similar 6-0 run, fueled by Greynolds and Hinckley. After a Denison field goal, Turk erased the deficit with a three-pointer, tying the game at 42-42. However, the Big Red regained the lead, which grew to as much as 12. The Gators fought back in the final five minutes, cutting the lead to six multiple times, but were unable to complete the road comeback.
Allegheny is back in action Wednesday (Jan. 19) when it travels to Oberlin. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 pm.
