MEADVILLE, Pa.—The Allegheny College softball team dropped both ends of a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) doubleheader to Kenyon College Tuesday (April 23) in Meadville.
Kenyon won game one 4-0 and game two 4-2.
In between games, the Gators honored their four senior players:
Maria DiDonato (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderidice),
Kala Mahen (Mercer, Pa./Lakeview),
Jessica Valerino (Liverpool, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and
Baylee Tarnowski (Dunkirk, N.Y./Fredonia).
Game One – Kenyon 4, Allegheny 0
The Ladies took a 2-0 lead in the second off a two-run homerun to right field. They tacked on two more runs in the third on a two RBI single. Kenyon pitcher Emily Pater limited the Gators to just one hit as the Ladies picked up the NCAC win.
Emily Cramer (Stroudsburg, N.Y./Stroudsburg) had the lone hit for the Gators.
Tori Vradenburg (Pasadena, Calif./San Marino) struck out five batters as she pitched a complete game.
Game Two – Kenyon 4, Allegheny 2
The Gators scored the first run of the game as Cramer crossed the plate on a
Samantha Valera (Chicago, Ill./Lane Technical) sac fly. The score stayed that way up until the sixth inning when the Ladies tied the game on a RBI single.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Gators regained the lead. Valera led off with a single, and reached home on a
Paige Ziggas (Beaver Area, Pa./Beaver Area) single.
However, the Ladies loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs to take the lead for the first time. In the bottom of the frame, the Ladies did not allow a baserunner as they completed the sweep.
Six different Gators registered hits in the game. Valera and Ziggas had RBI singles, while
Joplin Osgood (Coudersport, Pa./Coudersport), Cramer, Valerino and
Mariah Nablo (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville North) hit safely.
Mahen started game two for the Gators, striking out four batters.
The Gators return to action Thursday (April 25) for a NCAC doubleheader against Wittenberg University.
