FRANKLIN, Ind.— The Allegheny College men's cross country team finished 12
th in a 38 team field at the 2018 Great Lakes Regional Championship Saturday (Nov. 10).
The Gators tallied 316 points with finishes of fifth, 67
th, 77
th, 82
nd and 85
th.
Calvin College won the team title with a score of 56. Otterbein finished in second with 95 points.
Matt Svetz paced the Gators on the day as he earned All-Region honors for the second straight year. With a time of 25:10.6, Svetz finished fifth overall. The finish was his best at the Great Lakes Regional, after placing 14
th in 2017.
With his finish, Svetz automatically qualifies for the 2018 NCAA Division-III Championships next Saturday (Nov. 17) in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. This marks the second year in which Svetz has qualified as an individual, and his third overall trip.
The Gator two to five runners packed well as they finished between 67
th and 85
th, with just a 10 second difference between their times.
Freshman
Tim Weighart had the second-best finish for the Gators as he took 67
th with a time of 26:32.9.
Senior Luis McUmber held down the Gator number three spot and was just seven seconds behind Weighart as he finished 77
th with a time of 26:39.1.
Junior Luke Kellet took 82
nd with a time of 26:40.9 in his first regional races.
Classmate
Ben Slack-Foust rounded out the top-five for the Gators as he finished in 85
th with a time of 26:42.3, who was competing in his second regional races.
Also competing for the Gators was
Jared Szklenski, who placed 94
th with a time of 26:48.0 and
Seth Conard, who placed 109
th with a time of 26:58.7.
Ohio Northern's Ian McVey won the individual title with a time of 24.52.5.
