Box Score MEADVILLE, Pa.—The Allegheny College men's soccer team found an equalizer late in regulation but fell in the extra session to in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) match against Hiram College 2-1 Wednesday (Oct. 11) in Meadville.
Bryce Evans earned the first opportunity of the game in the eighth minute but the shot was saved. The Gators continued to pressure Hiram early as
Dillon Thoma and Evans put shots on goal but once again both were saved.
Hiram's Blake Easterling put their first shot on net in the 27
th minute but
David Stekla made the stop.
In the 29
th minute,
Danny Reid earned another opportunity was unable to convert.
The Terriers struck first in the 43
rd minute when Richard Milford found Christian Nshimyumuermyi, who scored from 13-yards out.
In the 49
th minute, Evans earned another opportunity off a corner kick but a Terrier defender got in the way of the shot. Minutes later, Evans earned another shot but goalie CJ Keith stifled the shot.
Throughout the second half, the Gators kept the ball in Hiram territory. In the first 30 minutes of the half, the Gators outshot the Terriers 9-3. Reid and Thomas had great opportunities that were blocked on the way to the net.
Adam Mascio earned a chance in the 73
rd minute which was also turned away by Keith.
The Terriers earned another shot in the 84
th minute but Stekla turned away a breakaway shot to keep the game in reach.
The pressure finally paid off in the 89
th minute for the Gators. With just over a minute to play, Reid found
Liam McKersie in the box for the late equalizer, sending the game into overtime.
In the extra session, Hiram earned the first shot but it went wide. The Gators countered with pressure, producing a pair of shots.
In the 98
th minute, a Keanu Shelton throw in to Kyle Watson in the box proved to be the game winner as Watson snuck the ball past the Gator defense.
The Gators owned a 19-12 advantage in the shot department, with 12 on net. Evans had five shots- all on net.
In goal, Stekla made four saves.
The Gators are back in action Saturday (Oct. 14) at home against DePauw University in NCAC action.
