Box Score FREDONIA, N.Y.— The Allegheny College women's basketball team fell in its final nonconference tilt of the season Monday (Jan. 30) at Fredonia State University, 109-61.
The two offenses went back-and-forth in the opening five minutes of the game as the Blue Devils gained a 15-11 lead. In the final five minutes of the frame, the Blue Devils took over, outscoring the Gators 17-6 to take a 32-17 lead into the second quarter.
The momentum from the final five minutes of the first quarter carried over to the first five minutes of the second. The Gators went back-and-forth but the Blue Devils pushed their lead to 45-26. In the waning minutes of the half,
Kaylah Pinkney scored four quick points but the Gators trailed 56-33 at halftime.
Kiersten Librizzi led the Gators offense with eight points in the opening 20 minutes while grabbing a pair of rebounds.
Olivia Barkley tallied six points and a pair of rebounds. Pinkney finished the half with five points and three rebounds.
Meaghan Wilby and
Madison Caufield also had three rebounds.
The Gator offense shot 29.5% (13-of-44) in the first half. The Blue Devils held the edge in the battle of the boards. 29-22. Of the 22 rebounds, nine of those were offensive. The Gator bench performed well in the opening half, scoring 21 points.
The offenses cooled down some in the third quarter as the Blue Devils outscored the Gators 11-6 to take a 67-39 lead midway through. After the lead increased to 71-39, the Gators went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead down, however, the Blue Devils scored the final 11 points of the quarter to take an 82-45 lead into the fourth.
The Blue Devils continued to control the flow of the game in the fourth, outscoring the Gators 27-16 to secure the win.
Librizzi ended the game with a team-high 11 points. She also had a pair of rebounds and assists. Barkley and Pinkney had seven points apiece while Wilby and
Amanda Beebe had six each. In all, 13 Gators tallied points.
The Gators shot 33.3% (26-of-78) from the field for the game.
Caufield led the Gators on the glass, collecting seven rebounds Pinkney was second on the team with five.
Delaney Arbore and
Jazmen Moore had a pair of steals apiece.
The Blue Devils were led by Alexis Cheatham's 35 points. Fredonia owned the advantage in rebounds 54-36.
The Gators return to North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action Friday (Feb. 3) at Wittenberg University.
