HIRAM, Ohio-- A pair of goals in the opening eight minutes of play spurred the Allegheny College men's soccer team to a road victory over Hiram College, 3-2, in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play Wednesday (Oct. 12) night at Henry Field.

While Allegheny took the early lead, Nick Dias' strike in the 63rd minute proved to be the game-winner.

Allegheny (4-7-2, 2-2 NCAC) got to work early. In the fourth minute, Tolossa Hassan found Jack Walsh on a cross who buried it in the back of the net to give the Gators an early lead.  The goal was Walsh's first of the season.

The Gators offense continued to roll. Just four minutes later, Skattum headed in a throw from Liam McNamee to increase the lead to 2-0. The goal was Skattum's second of the season.

The two goal advantage held up until the Terriers (5-5, 2-2 NCAC) got on the board with a Tage Davis goal in the 38th minute.

Neither team found the back of the net the rest of the half as the Gators owned a 2-1 lead going into the locker room at halftime.

The Gators increased their lead in the 63rd minute. Walsh collected his third point of the game when he found Dias for the third Gator goal. The goal was Dias' third of the season.

The Terriers made up for the goal four minutes later when Zac Cairns scored off assists from Tyler Helderman and Chris Nshimyumeremyi.

In the closing 20 minutes, the Terriers had a few scoring chances but the Gator defense held strong to seal the NCAC win.

The Terriers held the edge in both shots (14-9) and corners (5-4), while Allegheny junior keeper David Stekla made three saves to earn the win.

"It was a total
team effort tonight to secure three big road points," said Gator Head Coach Angelo Panzetta. "We had contributions from many, I was very proud of us putting together a full 90 minutes against a team that came into the game hot after beating Denison and DePauw over the past week."

The Gators are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 15, hosting Ohio Wesleyan University at Frank B. Fuhrer Field beginning at 5:00 p.m.
