BEREA, Ohio - The Gators dropped just their second game of the season Wednesday night, as they would hang tough with the number 16 team in the country, but fell just short 4-2 at Baldwin-Wallace.
The Gators would find themselves battling an early deficit, as the Yellow Jackets would score just nine minutes into the contest to take a 1-0 lead. Allegheny would respond, however, as junior
Tyler Danzey would net his first goal of the 2011 season to even things up at one.
Baldwin-Wallace would waste no time responding, as just ten minutes later, the Yellow Jackets would re-claim their one goal lead on a goal from Ben Deighton.
Just as Allegheny did earlier, they would answer right back, tying the game at two off the foot of senior
Arthur Smith. Smith's first of the year sent the game into halftime all knotted up, as Allegheny would look to continue their momentum into the second half.
The Yellow Jackets, however, would have different ideas as they would score two early goals in the second half, just three minutes apart, to take a commanding 4-2 lead. The deficit would prove too much for the Gators to overcome, as they would fall to 6-2 on the season.
"After playing a solid first half, coming back to tie it at one and two, we gave them too much room to play in the second half and they made us pay," said head coach
Angelo Panzetta after the game.
Junior
Conor Azevedo would tally an assist for Allegheny, and sophomore
Keith Danley would add one shot on goal for the Gators who will look to rebound in their first conference match of the season on Sunday, September 25, as they travel to Wittenberg to take on the Tigers.
