OBERLIN, Ohio – Junior
Bobby Over earned runner-up honors for the second week in a row, and Allegheny finished second overall out of 34 teams at the 2011 Inter-Regional Rumble hosted by Oberlin. The Gators, who put three runners inside the top 10, will need to identify a strong No. 5 as the team's lead pack appears to be as strong as any team in the Great Lakes Region.
Not only did Allegheny have three runners finish near the top of the individual standings, the Gators were the only team inside the top 10 on the big board to have a runner in the top 10 individual rankings. Over continued his outstanding fall slate, and finished four seconds behind meet-winner Bill Jones of Franciscan. Over covered the 8k course in 25:27.5, four seconds ahead of Noah Droody of new NCAC rival DePauw.
Senior
Pat McLaughlin finished fifth overall on Saturday in 25:48.1 while
Kevin Edwards clocked 25:51.1 to finish eighth. Allegheny's fourth runner was
Mike Vlah, who hit the chute in 26:34.5. Freshman
James Rynes capped the Gators' scoring contingent, but his final time of 27:35.2 marked a two-minute spread for the Blue and Gold's top five.
The Gators were the field's dominating squad through four positions, but finished just back of Albion in the team standings. St. Vincent (Pa.) finished third in the race, while NCAC rival Ohio Wesleyan finished fourth. DePauw (11th), Oberlin (14th), Wabash (15th), Wittenberg (17th), and Kenyon (28th) were the other conference teams competing in Allegheny's final race before the 2011 NCAC Championships.
