Lowmaster Leads Allegheny Past Behrend

Box Score

ERIE, Pa. -- The Allegheny baseball team struggled defensively, but made up for it with a pair of four-run innings, en route to an 8-6 non-conference victory over Penn State Behrend on Tuesday.

Ben Lowmaster led the Gators offensively, batting 4 for 5 with a double, one run scored and four RBIs. He also pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save for the Gators, who committed five errors.

Penn State Behrend (19-11) took the game's first lead on Dustin Dubensky's first-inning RBI single. Allegheny (20-9) responded in the third with four runs.

The visitors opened the third frame with four straight singles. Anthony Wilbur, Eric Hansen and Aaron Lynch loaded the bases for Lowmaster, who smashed a single of his own to drive in two runs. An RBI single by Behrend's Ryan Liddle in the third trimmed the hosts' deficit before Allegheny extended its lead to 8-2 in the sixth -- highlighted by two-run singles off the bats of Hansen and Lowmaster.

Morrisette began the Gators' sixth-inning rally with a walk. He moved to second on Stephen Martinkovich's sacrifice bunt and then advanced to third on a single by Chad Starzer. After Wilbur was hit by a pitch, Hansen delivered his hit. Lynch then sacrificed Hansen and Wilbur to second and third, respectively, setting the stage for Lowmaster's second two-RBI hit.

Behrend clawed its way back into the game in the sixth and seventh innings. Jonathan Gray and Geoff Lang plated runs with singles in the sixth and Vinny Rice and Evan Bukowski followed with RBI singles in the seventh, closing the deficit to 8-6, but the Lions were unable to inch any closer.

For Behrend, Dubensky and Josh Fyffe batted 2-for-5 while Bukowski was 2-for-3. Ryan Antolik was the losing pitcher.
