UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Allegheny volleyball team dropped a non-conference road contest at John Carroll Tuesday evening (Sept. 8).
John Carroll won the sets 25-18, 25-21, 25-18.
The Blue Streaks jumped out to an early lead in the opening set. The Gators put together several small runs to pull within three points multiple times, but ended up dropping the set 25-18.
The Gators fell behind in set two but would slowly chip away at the deficit until it was cut down to one point, 16-15. The teams then exchanged 4-0 runs as the Blue Streaks kept their one-point lead at 20-19. However, John Carroll ended the set on a 5-2 run as the Gators fell in set two, 25-21.
The teams were evenly matched early in the third set as the Gators trailed 14-12 midway through. The Blue Streaks, though, started to pull away following a 4-0 run, eventually closing out the match with a 25-18 third set win.

- Skyler Fatola (Queen Creek, Ariz./Eastmark) led the team with nine kills and three blocks.
- Jillian Smetana (Chardon, Ohio/Berkshire) had eight kills with five digs.
- Carly Beers (Warren, Pa./Warren) added five kills.
- Joanna Miller (Pittsburgh, Pa./Gateway) tallied 11 assists and six digs.
- Marissa Rish (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) totaled eight assists, four digs and two aces.
- Duru Akbas (Ankara, Turkey/Layton Christian Academy (Utah)) led the backline with 16 digs.
- Carlee Pepperman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area) contributed seven digs.
