Bender Scores, but Gators Drop Close Game to Tigers, 2-1

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's soccer team concluded their opening week of games at home Sunday (Sept. 6) against RIT, falling to the Tigers in a close 2-1 battle.
 
The Tigers got on the board first, heading in a corner kick in the 10th minute.
 
The Gators found an equalizer in the 19th minute. Casey Bender (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) created a takeaway in the RIT zone and blasted a shot from about 25 yards out to the upper right corner of the goal for the tally.
 
The teams went back-and-forth the rest of the opening half, with each side earning opportunities, but the contest went into halftime tied at one. 
 
RIT nearly regained the lead in the 63rd minute, but Catie Weiss (Plum, Pa./Plum) made a defensive save on the goalline to keep the game stalemated. 
 
The Tigers regained the lead in the 75th minute, once again scoring off of a corner kick.
 
The Gators continued to battle until the end, putting several shots on goal, including one by Karley Johnson (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community) in the 89th minute. However, they were unable to find another score as they fell to the Tigers 2-1.
