MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's soccer team hosted Penn State Behrend Wednesday (Sept. 10) in a non-conference contest, falling to the Lions 2-0.
The Gators nearly got on the board in the opening minute after earning a free kick, but
Emma Tikey's (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville) shot went just wide of the frame.
The Lions broke the stalemate in the 23rd minute, converting on a corner kick that bounced around the goal line. That proved to be the lone tally of the opening frame as the Gators trailed 1-0 at halftime.
Early in the second half, the Lions nearly found their second goal off a corner, but TIkey made a defensive save on the goal line to keep the deficit at one. However, the Lions did score their second goal minutes later as they followed up on a rebound following an
Addison Ayres (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) save in the 52nd minute.
Katherine Surdykowski (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional) had a good chance on net shortly after the Penn State Behrend goal, but the Lion goalkeeper charged out to make the stop.
The Gators earned several other chances the rest of the way, including a corner with a minute left, but were unable to overcome the disadvantage as they fell 2-0.
