GENESEO, N.Y. -- The Allegheny College women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback on the road against SUNY Geneseo in a non-conference matchup Friday evening at Geneseo's College Stadium.
Despite an overwhelming offensive effort by the Knights (1-0-1), the Gators (0-2-0) limited the hosts to just three goals, including a penalty kick in the 56th minute. SUNY Geneseo controlled the pace of the game for most of the night and finished with 37 total shots and 17 corner kicks. First-year goalie
Addison Ayres (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) was forced to put on a resilient performance in her collegiate debut and finished with 14 saves.
Although Allegheny's chances were limited,
Marleigh Burton (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) nearly turned a counterattack into a tying goal with the Gators trailing 1-0 in the 15th minute.
Camryn Kunz (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) made a great play to feed the ball from midfield through a pair of defenders and to a sprinting Burton near the top of the box, but Geneseo goalie Emily McLouth hauled in her right-footed shot from 20 yards out. Allegheny's next-best scoring opportunity came with three minutes remaining in the second half, when
Serena Carnahan (Plum, Pa./Plum) fired a mid-range shot towards the right post that McLouth also snagged.
