BETHANY, W. Va. – The Allegheny volleyball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on the road Saturday (Sept. 26) at Bethany, falling to the Bison in five sets.
The Bison won the sets 25-21, 25-21, 18-25, 25-27, 15-12.
The Gators built a 15-9 lead in the opening set. However, trailing 20-14, the Bison went on an 11-1 run to end the set.
After back-and-forth play to start the second set, the Bison went on a 6-0 run to take control, 9-3. The Gators chipped away at the deficit, pulling within a point, 18-17. The set remained close, but the Bison eventually took it 25-21.
The Gators utilized a 7-0 run in the third set to take a 12-6 lead. They continued to use smaller runs in the set to keep their distance, taking the set 25-18.
Allegheny built a small lead early in the fourth set. The Bison would tie it up at 13 as the teams continued to battle. The set came right down to the wire as the teams were tied at 25. A kill by
Marissa Rish (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) put the Gators ahead by one before an attack error gave the Gators the set, forcing a fifth and deciding one.
The Gators held an early 3-1 lead in the final set, but the Bison went on a 6-0 run to move ahead. Late in the set, the Gators pulled within a point, 12-11, but Bethany won three of the final four points to win in five.
Inside the Box
- RIsh recorded her fourth triple-double, going for 27 assists, 14 digs and 10 kills.
- Skyler Fatola (Queen Creek, Ariz./Eastmark) had nine kills and seven blocks.
- Kendall Brunn (Campbell, Ohio/Northeast Ohio Impact Academy) also had nine kills.
- Carlee Pepperman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area) tallied 15 digs and eight kills while serving three aces.
- Jillian Smetana (Chardon, Ohio/Berkshire) added seven kills.
- Duru Akbas (Ankara, Turkey/Layton Christian Academy (Utah)) had 15 digs and three aces.
- Bella Johnson (Waterford, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) contributed 12 digs while Carly Beers (Warren, Pa./Warren) had eight.
