WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Allegheny women's soccer team scored a trio of second half goals as they collected a 3-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win on the road at Washington and Jefferson Saturday (Sept. 19).
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening half. The Gators nearly got on the board in the ninth minute, but
Casey Bender's (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) shot ricocheted off the left post. The Gators tallied six shots in the half and earned three corner opportunities.
Addison Ayres (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) made four stops in the 45 minutes.
The Gators broke the stalemate in the 63rd minute. Bender delivered a corner kick into the box.
Katherine Surdykowski (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional) got her head on the ball, knocking past the goalkeeper to put Allegheny on the board. The goal was Surdykowski's third of the season.
The defense continued to play well in front of Ayers, limiting the Presidents' offense.
Allegheny added to their lead in the 86th minute.
Delaney David (Cleveland, Ohio/Brooklyn) passed the ball to Surdykowski in the middle of the field about 20 yards out from goal. Surdykowski floated a shot over top of the goalkeeper and under the crossbar for her second tally of the game.
After Surdykowski's goal, the Gators needed just another minute to make it 3-0.
Camryn Kunz (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) delivered a through pass to Bender, who got behind the defenders. After a quick touch, Bender shot from the boundary of the goalbox and into the back of the net. The goal was her second of the year.
Ayers made four more saves in the second half as the Gators picked up the shutout win.
