MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's soccer team opened up Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play at home Wednesday night (Sept. 16) against Geneva, drawing with the Golden Tornadoes 2-2.
The Gators got on the board in just the second minute. A corner kick by
Casey Bender (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) found its way into the box and onto the foot of
Madeline Schneider (Poolesville, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart). Schneider's quick shot found the back of the net as the Gators took an early lead. It marked her first tally of the season.
The Golden Tornadoes tied it up in the 10th minute with their goal also coming off a corner kick. Geneva would take the lead in the 22nd minute as they scored a quick goal following a free kick.
Similar to the opening frame, the Gators did not need much time to get on the board in the second half. Bender, once again on a corner, delivered a ball into the box.
Katherine Surdykowski (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional) got her head on the ball, knocking it past the goalkeeper to tie the game at two.
The Gators continued to pressure the Geneva defense, outshooting their counterparts in the half by a 14-3 margin. They put five more shots on target, including one in the closing seconds by
Delaney David (Cleveland, Ohio/Brooklyn), but were unable to find the back of the net again as the match ended in a draw.
