Gators Blank Golden Flyers, 5-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Allegheny field hockey team traveled to Nazareth Saturday (Sept. 12) for a non-conference game, shutting out the Golden Flyers in a 5-0 victory.

The Gators opened scoring midway through the first. Anna Merlack's (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) pass found its way to Caroline Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty), who put the ball in the back of the net. The goal marked her first of the year.

Allegheny added to their lead just over a minute into the second as Teagan Ressler (Glenwood, N.J./Vernon Township) scored after a scrum in front of the net. It was her fourth of the year. Jamie Marchewka (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) had the assist on the play. Just minutes later, the Gators made it 3-0. Cora Miranda (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville East) passed the ball across the crease to Marchewka, tallying her first goal of the year.

In the final minutes of the third quarter, Bryce Watford (Parkville, Md./Eastern Technical) dribbled the ball through the Nazareth defenders, launching a shot from about 10 yards out that was tucked inside the post for the team's fourth goal. It was her first of the year.

In the fourth, Smith scored her second goal of the game after collecting a rebound on a saved shot off a corner.
