Cochran Wins NCBWA D-III National Hitter of the Week Award

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny College slugger Ryan Cochran (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes) earned his third award of the week following an incredible display of power, as the sophomore was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division III National Hitter of the Week.

Earlier this week, Cochran was announced as the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Player of the Week, and was selected by D3baseball.com for its Team of the Week.

Cochran was chosen as the best batter in the country after belting six home runs in four games last week. He slashed .556/.609/1.611 with 10 hits, 10 runs scored, and 14 RBIs, leading the Gators to doubleheader sweeps over Bethany College and Franciscan University. Cochran logged multiple hits and multiple RBIs in all four games. In Saturday's 19-12 win over Franciscan, he launched three home runs – one shy of the team single-game record – and he added two more in a 19-5 win in the series finale against the Barons.

A Pittsburgh native, Cochran is the second PAC batter recognized by the NCBWA this spring. He joins Washington and Jefferson College's Josh Dezenzo, who earned the award for the week of March 30 through April 5.
