Men's Tennis Advances to PAC Championship With 4-0 Win vs. W&J

MEAVILLE, Pa. -- The top-seeded and 67th-ranked Allegheny College men's tennis team punched its ticket to its fourth consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) championship match with a 4-0 victory over Washington and Jefferson College in the semifinals on Thursday afternoon.

The Gators (16-7) needed less than an hour to defeat the fourth-seeded Presidents (6-12), less than a week after shutting out W&J in the regular-season finale. The top two doubles matches both ended with 6-0 scores, while two of the three singles matches played to completion ended in 6-0, 6-0 straight-set wins.

In the No. 1 singles match, Allegheny's freshman phenom Adam Memije (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) won all 12 games against W&J's Jacob Bennett. The win was Memije's 26th of the season in singles competition, tying the program's all-time single-season record set by Patrick Cole '14 during his senior year in 2013-14. Memije also teamed up with Benedek Kaibas (Salgótarján, Hungary/Mikszáth Kálmán Gimnázium) for Allegheny's No. 2 doubles victory, as the duo blanked Bennett and Nick Bussard.

Sophomore Olivier Erkens (Gouda, Netherlands/Coornhert Gymnasium) was a double winner, too. He earned the match-clinching point in his No. 5 singles bout by defeating Colby Peters, 6-1, 6-0.
