Men's Tennis Wins Fourth Consecutive PAC Championship

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny College men's tennis continued its run of dominance in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) on a sunny Monday afternoon by winning its fourth consecutive conference championship with a 4-0 victory over Grove City College.

In the fourth straight meeting between the Gators (17-0) and the Wolverines (9-5) in the PAC Championship Tournament finals, Allegheny cruised to another title on their home courts at the Robertson Athletic Complex. As a result, the Blue and Gold earned another automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championships, with first-round matchups to be announced next week.

In the five matches that finished, the Gators dropped only five games to Grove City. Allegheny earned the doubles points with a 6-1 win in the No. 1 match and a 6-0 sweep at No. 3. Freshman Zidaan Hassan (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) was the first Gator to defeat his singles opponent and did so by a 6-0, 6-1 score. Senior David Rodriguez (St. Ann's, Trinidad & Tobago/Fatima College) put Allegheny ahead 3-0 with an identical score in his No. 3 win.

In the fourth spot, junior Javier Bejarano Jimenez (El Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma) captured the match-clinching point for a second year in a row by defeating Grove City's Garrett Ranney, 6-1, 6-1.

Rodriguez, one of two student-athletes who have been part of all four PAC championships, was tabbed the PAC Championship Tournament MVP. Bejarano Jimenez and Olivier Erkens (Gouda, Netherlands/Coornhert Gymnasium) were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
