PAC Release

TRAFFORD, Pa. -- After a 4-0 week with sweeps of Bethany College and Franciscan University, two members of the Allegheny College baseball program were recognized by the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).

For the third time this spring, Ryan Cochran (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes) was crowned the PAC Player of the Week, while Zach Miner (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) was named the Newcomer of the Week for a second time.

Cochran has put together one of the most impressive stretches by an Allegheny slugger in recent history. The powerful outfielder slashed .556/.609/1.611 in four games last week, while six of his 10 hits were home runs. Cochran finished with multiple hits and RBIs in all four games and homered in three contests. With his video-game-like numbers at the plate, Cochran led the Gators to wins of 23-3 and 12-9 against Bethany and a sweep of Franciscan by scores of 19-12 and 19-5. He left the yard once in the nightcap against the Bison. In the two-game set with Franciscan, the sophomore posted nine RBIs, seven runs scored, and five home runs. Cochran smashed three dingers on Saturday and then capped off the week with two more long balls in the series finale on Sunday.

A versatile freshman, Miner picked up another Newcomer of the Week award for his combined effort at the plate and on the mound. In the first game with the Bison, he secured his first collegiate win by scattering three runs (two earned) on seven hits over 7.0 innings of work. The right-handed hurler also tied a season-high with five strikeouts. At the dish, the lefty batsman hit .636 with seven hits, six runs, and three RBIs. Against Franciscan, he logged two three-hit contests with a double in each game.

Cochran, Miner, and the rest of the Allegheny baseball team will return to Robert M. Garbark '32 Field for a PAC doubleheader against Saint Vincent College on Wednesday, April 22, beginning at 1 p.m.
