MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team battled with Bethany in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader Friday (April 17), but ultimately fell in both games.
The Gators fell in game one 9-4. The Gators rallied to send game two into extra innings, but dropped the game 5-1.
Game One - Bethany 9, Allegheny 4
After a scoreless two innings to start, the Bison put up two runs in the third to take the lead.
The Gators got out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the fourth before tying the game in the bottom of the frame.
Morgan Kinney (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) drew a walk to lead-off the inning.
Alaina Sharp (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) tied it up as she homered over the center field fence to tie it at two. It marked her second home run of the year.
The Bison regained the advantage in the fifth as they pushed four runs across the plate to take a 6-2 lead.
Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) started the bottom of the fifth inning with a single, and
Jayla Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) drew a walk. After the batters moved up on a wild pitch, a sacrifice fly by Kinney brought Phillips in and advanced Jones.
Avery Magee (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) followed up with an RBI single to right center, scoring Jones to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Bethany tacked on three runs in the sixth as their lead reached 9-4.
The Gators were unable to make up the runs as they fell in game one.
Inside the Box
- Sharp hit a two-run home run.
- Abby Robinson (Mars, Pa./Mars Area) had a pair of singles.
- Magee had an RBI single.
- Kinney registered an RBI on a drawn walk.
- Phillips, Jones, Maisy Post (North East, Pa./North East) and Lauren Folino (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) all singled.
Game Two - Bethany 5, Allegheny 1 (8 innings)
The Bison jumped out to an early lead, scoring a run in the top of the first.
The Gators put up hits in the first, third and fifth innings, but the score remained at 1-0.
In the sixth, Bethany loaded the bases, but starting pitcher
Kennedy Stahl (Warriors Mark, Pa./State College Area) navigated the Gators out of the jam unscathed.
Phillips started the bottom of the sixth with a single to right. Sharp advanced her to second on a sacrifice bunt. Jones followed up with a single on the right field line to place runners on the corners for Kinney. Kinney singled through the left side of the infield, bringing Phillips home to tie the game at one.
After getting out of jam in the top of the seventh,
Madalyn Myers (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) hit an infield single to start the bottom of the inning. Robinson followed up with a single to left field. After a flyout, the Bison turned a double play as the game went into extra innings.
In the extra inning, Bethany plated four runs as they regained the lead. The Gators were unable to produce a baserunner in the bottom of the frame as they fell in extra innings.
Inside the Box
- Myers had a pair of hits.
- Kinney had a RBI single.
- Phillips had a hit and scored a run.
- Robinson, Sharp, Jones, Seneca and Post all singled.
- Stahl pitched 7.0 innings in the start, giving up three earned runs while striking out two.

- Allegheny is now 21-17 all-time against Bethany.
