Gators Earn Road Split with Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team traveled to Geneva Saturday (April 11) for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader, splitting the road matchup.

The Gators fought back late in game one to pick up a 3-2 win before falling 5-2 in game two.

Game One - Allegheny 3, Geneva 2

The Golden Tornadoes got on the board in the first, scoring a pair of runs off of two hits to take an early lead.

The Gator defense held tough, getting out of jams including a bases loaded situation with one out in the fourth.

After being held of the bases through, Abby Robinson (Mars, Pa./Mars Area) reached on an error to start the seventh. Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) then produced their first hit with a single through the left side of the infield, putting a pair of runners on. Later in the inning with two outs, Morgan Kinney (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) hit a single to left field, bringing Robinson around to cut the deficit to 2-1. The rally continued as Lauren Folino (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) doubled to left center, bringing both runners in as the Gators took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh.

Madison Hulse (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) allowed a hit in the seventh, but the Gator defense continued to play well behind her as the Gators did not allow the runner to cross the plate as they completed the 3-2 comeback victory.

The Golden Tornadoes added three more runs in the fourth.

Allegheny loaded the bases with one out in the fifth off a Rachel Seneca (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) single and walks drawn by Phillips and Jayla Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth). Folino pushed one across on a groundout as the Gators cut the deficit to four runs.

The teams added another run in the sixth. Samantha Foley (Fombell, Pa./North Catholic) singled through the right side of the infield. Later in the inning, Robinson drove her in on an infield single.
