Gators Fall in Back-and-Forth Battle to Pioneers

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's lacrosse team fell in a back-and-forth battle to Alfred State, 8-7, Monday (March 9) in Meadville.

The Pioneers scored first, six minutes into the game. Kendall Cox (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) tied it up a few minutes later off an assist by Amelia Henderson (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny). After Alfred State regained the lead, Henderson would score off an assist by Cox this time to tie it back up. In the final minutes of the opening quarter, Aubrey Carion (Pittsburgh, Pa./Kiski Area) scored her first career goal to put the Gators up 3-2 heading into the second.

Alfred State started the second quarter on a 4-0 run before Henderson broke it up on an unassisted tally. Erin Lowthert (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) would answer another Pioneer goal with a strike off a feed by Brooklyn Harrison (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford). Minutes later, Cox made it a one goal game. The score remained 7-6 Alfred State at the half.

The Gators tied the game early in the third as Caroline Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) found the back of the net, assisted by Cox. That proved to be the only goal of the 15 minute frame as the teams entered the fourth knotted at seven.

The Pioneers broke up the scoreless streak with a goal six minutes in the fourth, taking the lead. Similar to the third, that was the lone goal of the fourth as the Pioneers defeated the Gators 8-7.
