Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse Ties with Mount Aloysius, 10-10

CRESSON, Pa. – The Allegheny women's lacrosse team mounted a late comeback on the road against Mount Aloysius Wednesday (March 11) to send the game into overtime knotted at 10, but the game was ultimately called due to weather as the contest ended in a tie.

The Mounties scored twice in the first before the Gators got on the board. Amelia Henderson (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) converted a free-position attempt with just over a minute to go, cutting the Mount Aloysius lead to 2-1.

Midway through the second quarter, the Mounties pushed their lead back up to two goals. Erin Lowthert (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) would answer for the Gators with a pair of goals, the first assisted by Caroline Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty), as they tied the game at three with two minutes remaining in the opening half. Mount Aloysius scored a quick goal off the draw though as they took a 4-3 lead into the locker room.

Mount Aloysius increased their lead to 7-3 in the third quarter before Smith broke up the run with a goal assisted Aubrey Carion (Pittsburgh, Pa./Kiski Area).

Trailing by three heading into the fourth, the Gators mounted a comeback. Kendall Cox (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) found the back of the net just seconds into the fourth off a feed by Smith. Just 30 seconds later, Cox struck once again, pulling the Gators within a goal. Once again, Allegheny did not waste time in between goals as Smith scored the Gators' third goal in a 78 second span. After a penalty was assessed to the Mounties, Lowthert put the Gators in front for the first time, 8-7, on an unassisted goal.

The Mounties halted the Gator run by tying the game at eight. The Gators were quick to respond as Cox scored her third goal of the game off Smith's third assist. The score stayed the same until about two minutes left when the Mounties scored to tie it up. Shortly after, Mount Aloysius regained the lead on a free-position shot, 10-9.

The Gators won the ensuing draw control with less than a minute remaining. The Mounties were penalized, giving Allegheny an extra player advantage. The Gators took advantage as Lowthert scored off an assist by Maya Bloom (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston) to send the game to overtime.

Emma Foley (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) made a save early in the overtime session before the game went into a weather delay that ultimately forced an early ending to the contest as the teams tied at 10.
