CLERMONT, Fla. – The Allegheny softball team opened up their 2026 season at THE Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. Sunday (March 1) with a doubleheader.
The Gators fell to Carnegie Mellon 5-3 in game one and to Capital 5-1 in game two.
Game One - Carnegie Mellon 5, Allegheny 3
The Tartans got on the board in the bottom of the second when they hit a two-out triple followed up by an RBI single.
In the top of the third,
Julia Perillo (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) and
Jayla Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) hit back-to-back singles with one out.
Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) then drew a walk to load the bases.
Madalyn Myers (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) walked as well, bringing Perillo in to tie the game at one. The Gators remained disciplined at the plate as
Alaina Sharp (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) drew the third straight walk, plating Jones as Allegheny took the lead.
Carnegie Mellon regained the lead with two runs on two hits and an error in the bottom of the fourth.
The Gators made up the run in the next inning. Phillips singled with two outs. Sharp then singled to left field, and the ball got past the fielder, bringing Phillips in to tie the game at three.
However, the Tartans scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame and held the Gators off in the sixth and seventh.
Inside the Box
- Sharp had a hit and a RBI.
- Philips and Perillo produced hits.
- Myers brought in a run on a walk.
- Jones recorded her first collegiate hit.
- Madison Hulse (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) got the start in the circle, allowing two earned runs while striking out six.
Game Two - Capital 5, Allegheny 1
In the bottom of the second,
Abby Robinson (Mars, Pa./Mars Area) was hit by a pitch and
Morgan Kinney (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) earned a walk. The two advanced on a wild pitch. Phillips delivered a two-out infield single to plate Robinson for the first run of the game.
The Gators kept the Comets off the board until the fifth, when they tied the game on a solo home run. They then rallied for four more runs with two outs to jump ahead, 5-1.
In the bottom of the seventh,
Rachel Seneca (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) had a lead-off single. She advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches.
Kylie Thompson (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) drew a pinch hit walk to put runners on the corners. However, the Gators were unable to bring another run across as they fell in their second game of the day.
Inside the Box
- Phillips had an RBI single that scored Robinson.
- Seneca had a single.
- Kassidy Samuelraj (Solon, Ohio/Solon) made her collegiate debut, giving up five runs in 4.2 innings.
- Kennedy Stahl (Warriors Mark, Pa./State College Area) pitched the final 2.1 innings of play, allowing no runs while striking out two.

- The Gators are now 0-4 against Carnegie Mellon and 3-1 against Capital.
- Jones, Myers, Samuelraj, Robinson, Stahl, Riley Lorah (Waterford, Pa./General McLane), Lauren Folino (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley), Maisy Post (North East, Pa./North East) and Mackenzie Keber (Freedom, Pa./Ambridge Area) made their Allegheny debuts.
