MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team continued Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play at home against Franciscan Friday (Oct. 2), falling to the Barons in straight sets.
The Barons won the sets 25-15, 25-12, 25-19.
The teams were tied early in the opening set before a 4-0 run gave the Barons an 8-4 lead. After calling a timeout, the Gators battled back to tie the set at 10. Francisan built their lead back up to 17-12. A second timeout failed to slow Franciscan down as they took the first set 25-15.
Franciscan opened the second set on a 5-0 run. Allegheny would pull within a point at 8-7, but the Barons answered with a 4-0 run to regain control. Franciscan continued to build their lead as they took the set 25-12.
After falling behind early, the Gators rallied with a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to one point, 9-8. After trading points, the Barons went on a 4-0 run to take a 15-10 lead. Their lead grew before a 4-0 Gator run brought the lead down to 21-17. However, the Barons limited the Gators in the final stretch as they took the set 25-19.
Inside the Box
- Carlee Pepperman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area) led the team with eight kills.
- Skyler Fatola (Queen Creek, Ariz./Eastmark) and Carly Beers (Warren, Pa./Warren) had five kills each.
- Jillian Smetana (Chardon, Ohio/Berkshire) tallied four kills while assisting on two blocks.
- Kendall Brunn (Campbell, Ohio/Northeast Ohio Impact Academy) assisted on four blocks.
- Joanna Miller (Pittsburgh, Pa./Gateway) registered 15 assists and six digs.
- Duru Akbas (Ankara, Turkey/Layton Christian Academy (Utah)) led the defense with 13 digs.
- Marissa Rish (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) added seven while Kate Bruner (Willoughby, Ohio/Beaumont) had six.
