Late Goal Lifts Gators Past Cougars

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – A goal in the final minutes of play led the Allegheny men's soccer team past Chatham Tuesday (Oct. 13) for a 2-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory.

The teams battled back-and-forth in the opening half. The Gators had a 4-1 advantage in shots and earned the only two corner kicks in the 45-minute span. Micah Khembo (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) had a pair of shots on goal while Ben Keefer (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) had one as well, but the game remained scoreless at the half.

The battle continued into the second half as the game remained scoreless until the 84th minute. The Gators earned a free kick from just outside the goal box on the near side. Will Gruca (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) took the attempt. His shot split the Cougar wall of defenders as he buried it in the inside of the post for the score.

The Gator defense held tough in the final minutes, led by goalkeeper Charlie Hutton (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) as they secured the conference shutout.
