Second Half Goals Lead Gators Past Wolverines

MEADVILLE, Pa. – A pair of second half goals led the Allegheny men's soccer team to 2-0 win against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) leading Grove City at home Saturday (Oct. 17).

In the first half, the Gators had a solid chance in the 29th minute off a free kick, but Cooper Euziere's (Melbourne, Fla./Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy) shot in front of the net went just over the crossbar.

The Wolverines outshot the Gators 5-2 in the opening 45 minutes as the game went into halftime scoreless.

The Gators' persistence paid off with a goal in the 57th minute. Goalkeeper Cadan Bennett (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) sent a long pass down the field to Micah Khembo (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic). The pass got by the Grove City defenders before Khembo put a quick shot on net. His shot found the far top corner to give the Gators the lead.

Allegheny added to their lead in the 69th minute. Euziere took a throw in the box. After creating some space, Euziere's shot hit off a defender in front of the net into the back of it as the lead grew to 2-0.

The two teams continued to battle as the Allegheny defense held tough in front of Benett as he earned the clean sheet in the victory.
