MEADVILLE, Pa. – Casey Bender (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) found the back of the net with just over two minutes remaining in their Saturday (Sept. 6) contest against Marietta as the Allegheny women's soccer team played the Pioneers to a 1-1 draw.
Neither side was able to find the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes of play. Carnahan (Plum, Pa./Plum) almost got the Gators on board in the 27th minute on a free kick, but the shot was turned away at the last second.
Alex Augustine (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) made six saves in the first half.
The Pioneers broke up the scoreless game in the 52nd minute on a goal from the top of the goalie box.
The Gators continued to pressure the Pioneers as they produced eight shots in the frame. The pressure finally paid off in the 88th minute.
Delaney David (Cleveland, Ohio/Brooklyn) received the ball around the midfield line and lofted it ahead to Bender. Bender got past her defender and had a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The goalie went to clear the ball but Bender quickly got her foot on it and redirected it to the back of the net, tying the game with just over two minutes remaining.
The Pioneers had a shot on target in the final minute, but Augustine made another save as the Gators drew with the Pioneers.
