STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Allegheny volleyball team traveled to Franciscan for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match Saturday (Sept. 27), defeating the Barons in four sets.
The Gators won the sets 25-22, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20.
The teams went back-and-forth to start the match. That action continued until late in the set as they were knotted at 21. The Gators ended up closing the set on a 4-1 run, capped off by a kill by
Carly Beers (Warren, Pa./Warren).
The momentum carried over to the second set as they jumped out to a 9-2 lead. Allegheny was able to hold that lead the rest of the way as they captured the set 25-20, moving ahead by two sets in the match.
After the teams were evenly matched in the early parts of the third set, the Barons gained a 15-11 lead. Franciscan was able to hold that lead as they took the third set 25-19.
Early in the fourth set, the Gators rattled off a 5-0 run to jump ahead, 9-5. Franciscan fought back to make it close late, but Allegheny closed the match on a 3-0 run, winning the conference tilt in four sets.
Inside the Box
- Amaya Brooks (North Olmsted, Ohio/Lutheran West) led the team with 12 kills.
- Carlee Pepperman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area) finished with 13 digs, nine kills and three aces.
- Skyler Fatola (Queen Creek, Ariz./Eastmark) also had nine kills to go with three solo blocks and two assisted blocks.
- Beers tallied eight kills while Sydney Kirk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) had seven.
- Joanna Miller (Pittsburgh, Pa./Gateway) had a team-high 19 assists and eight digs while Izzy Gray (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) had 17 assists and seven digs.
- Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) had 26 digs and three aces.

- Allegheny is now 6-1 all-time against Franciscan.
