Women’s Soccer Draws with Grove City, 1-1

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Allegheny women's soccer team faced reigning Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Champion Grove City Saturday (Sept. 27), playing the Wolverines to a 1-1 draw.

In the opening 45 minutes of action, neither side was able to find the back of the net. Madeline Schneider (Poolesville, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart), Katherine Surdykowski (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional) and Savannah Wilde (Lancaster, Ohio/Bloom-Carroll) had shots in the frame while Alex Augustine (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) made two stops.

The Wolverines got on the board in the 53rd minute, scoring on a quick set piece.

The Gators continued to put pressure on the Grove City defense with it paying off in the 79th minute. Casey Bender (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) stepped up to take a free kick from just outside the box. Bender's shot went just outside the Wolverine wall, tucking inside the post for the equalizer. The goal marked her second of the year.

Each side had chances in the final minutes of the game, but Bender's goal proved to be the final of the game as it ended with a 1-1 draw.
