Magee Nets Winner Against Nazareth

MEADVILLE, Pa. – An 85th minute goal by Nick Magee (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) gave the Allegheny men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Nazareth at home Saturday (Sept. 13).

In the opening 45 minutes, the Golden Flyers outshot the Gators 7-3. Cadan Bennett (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) made a pair of saves while Jacob Kubik-Pauw (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Hanover (N.H.)) had a shot on target.

Nazareth struck first in the second half. In the 66th minute, they earned a penalty kick and converted on the attempt to break up the scoreless game.

The Gators were quick to answer, finding the equalizer in the 74th minute. Ransom Perkins (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Preparatory School) took the ball on the far side into the box. He crossed it over to Will Gruca (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) in front of the net, tying the game with the tally. The goal marked Gruca's first of the season, and Perkins first collegiate assist.

The game remained tied until the 85th minute. Kubik-Pauw headed a ball ahead in the box. As the goalie charged at it, Magee got his foot on it and redirected it past the keeper, finding the back of the net to give the Gators the lead. The goal was Magee's second of the season.

The Allegheny defense held tough the rest of the way as they earned the nonconference victory.
