Gators Fall in Extra Time to W&J in NCAC Opener

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- For the second time this season, the Allegheny College field hockey team battled into overtime, but the Gators came up on the short end of a 1-0 decision against Washington and Jefferson College Wednesday night.

The 2025 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opener marked yet another contest between Allegheny (2-2, 0-1 NCAC) and W&J (2-2, 1-0 NCAC) that required overtime. Half of the eight all-time meetings between the Gators and Presidents and three of their last four games reached overtime.

Most of Allegheny's best scoring chances came in the second and third quarters. All nine shots and seven of the team's nine penalty corners were generated in the second and third quarters. Despite the offensive pressure, the Gators couldn't find the back of the net in regulation.

Goalie Rowan O'Toole (Glen Burnie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) stood tall in the fourth quarter to force overtime. With about three minutes to go in the period, W&J developed a quick three-on-one rush towards the cage. O'Toole dove off of her line to deny one shot, then quickly jumped to her feet and kicked away another to clear the ball out of the shooting circle.

During the seven-on-seven overtime, the Presidents found themselves in a similar situation. This time, W&J connected on a series of passes across the circle, giving Joscelynn Anglin space to slot the game-winner inside the far post.

  • Washington and Jefferson took 12 shots with eight on target.
  • Allegheny had a significant 9-to-2 lead in penalty corners.

  • Anglin netted the game-winner for W&J with an assist from Lindsey Blount.
