Diaz Surpasses 2,000 Career Digs

SANDUSKY, Ohio – Senior libero Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) surpassed 2,000 career digs as the Allegheny volleyball team split a pair of five set matches on the final day of the Great Lakes Cross Over Saturday (Aug. 30).

The Gators dropped their first match to Muskingum in five sets before defeating Baldwin Wallace in five.

Match One - Muskingum 3, Allegheny 2 (25-14, 19-25, 23-25, 25-11, 25-10)

The teams were even early on until the Muskies started to pull ahead with a 5-0 run, taking a 15-9 lead. Later in the set, Muskingum went on a 6-0 as they closed out the set, 25-14.

The Gators bounced back with a set two win. The teams were evenly matched until late. Allegheny rattled off a 4-0 run to move ahead, 23-16. Carlee Pepperman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area) closed out the set with a kill as the Gators tied the match at one.

Allegheny grabbed an early advantage in set three following a 4-0 run, but Muskingum answered with their own 8-1 run to take the lead. The Gators continued to battle back and chip away at the lead, eventually tying it at 21. After some back-and-forth, Carly Beers (Warren, Pa./Warren) had a pair of kills to close out the set, 25-23.

The Muskies controlled the pace of the fourth set, winning it 25-11 to force a deciding fifth set.

Muskingum jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fifth set, but a Gator run brought the game within a point, 6-5. The back-and-forth set led to the teams being tied at 10 apiece. However for the Gators, the Muskies were able to limit Allegheny to just one point the rest of the way as the Gators fell in the fifth set, 15-11.
