Volleyball Drops Home Opener to John Carroll

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team opened up the home portion of their 2025 schedule Wednesday (Sept. 3) against John Carroll, falling to the Blue Streaks in four sets.
 
John Carroll won the match 22-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-19.
 
Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) produced 28 digs in the match, moving her into third all-time in program history.
 
After some back-and-forth play, the Gators rattled off four straight points to push ahead, 11-6, in the opening set. The run continued through a John Carroll timeout, reaching six straight points. The Blue Streaks fought back late in the set, bringing the score within two, 20-18. After a timeout, the Gators won the next two points, leading to John Carroll's final timeout of the set. Allegheny was able to close out the set following the timeout, taking it 25-22.
 
The Blue Streaks gained an early advantage in the second set. They were able to hold the early lead throughout, tying the match with a 25-13 set win.
 
An early 4-0 run in the third set gave the Gators a 10-6 lead. The Blue Streaks fought back, tying it up at 14 apiece. John Carroll's momentum carried through an Allegheny timeout as they won five of the next six points. The Gators battled after a timeout, but ultimately fell in the set 25-20.
 
The fourth set was even early on before the Gators went on a 3-0 run to take a 12-9 lead. The Blue Streaks then went on their own run to tie it at 13 apiece. After some ties and lead changes, the Blue Streak pushed ahead, 19-17, late in the set. Following the final timeout, John Carroll ended the match on a 4-2 run as the Gators dropped their home opener.
 
Inside the Box
  • Carly Beers (Warren, Pa./Warren) led the Gators with eight kills.
  • Skyler Fatola (Queen Creek, Ariz./Eastmark) finished the match with seven kills and 3.0 total blocks.
  • Journey Gray (Carrollton, Ga./Carrollton) also ended the match with seven kills.
  • Carlee Pepperman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area) had a career-high 20 digs to go alongside five kills.
  • Reilly Mendez (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos) also had five kills.
  • Izzy Gray (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) had 28 assists and 13 digs.
  • Diaz led the backline with 28 digs.

  • The Gators are now 5-16 all-time against John Carroll.
  • Diaz moved into third all-time in digs. She currently has 2,053.
  • Pepperman had a career-high 20 digs.

The Gators will compete at the 2025 Pam Briggs Classic, hosted by Capital and Otterbein. The Gators will play Capital and Otterbein Friday (Sept. 5) and at 25th-ranked Otterbein Saturday (Sept. 6).
