MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's soccer team opened their 2025 season at home against Capital Friday (Aug. 29), falling to the Comets 4-1.
The Comets got on the board in the opening five minutes on a short-ranged goal inside the near post.
Katherine Surdykowski (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional) had the first scoring opportunity for Allegheny in the 25th minute, but her shot was saved.
Alex Augustine (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) made three saves before the Comets broke through with a late goal in the half, taking a 2-0 lead into the locker room.
The Gators cut the lead in half in the 54th minute. A yellow card in the box gave Allegheny a penalty kick. Surdykowski stepped up for the attempt, burying the shot inside the post, cutting the lead to 2-1.
The score remained 2-1 until the 72nd minute when the Comets scored on a shot from a few yards out to push their lead back to two goals. Capital tacked on an additional goal in the 79th minute en route to the win.
